Dairy Products and Inflammation

Today, I am going to discuss one reason why full-fat dairy products may be better than low-fat dairy products. I am going to focus on the aspect of sugar content, inflammation, and type 2 diabetes in this post, but will focus on other aspects, such as cardiovascular disease and cancer, in my next posts!

Calories Are Not Created Equal

The next five blog posts will be dedicated to my individual topic discussing full-fat dairy versus low-fat dairy. I will evaluate the evidence in my next four posts and then draw a conclusion in my final post based on what I have presented. My last post will also include an infographic summarizing all the information I have found. For today, I would like to start off my argument of full-fat versus low-fat by discussing why calories are not created equal.

Part 2: Are High-Protein Diets Unhealthy?

In the last post on protein intake, I discussed protein requirements for optimal health and how some of the media buzz encouraging high protein intake may not be required. In this post, I will follow-up on that and also discuss the implications of high-protein diets for health, specifically weight loss.

Artificial Sweeteners: Stop Fakin’ It

There has been a lot of talk in the media recently about artificial sweeteners (AS). Some proponents say that artificial sweeteners help you lose weight by replacing the empty calories of sugar-sweetened beverages. They also help in the management of diabetes, since they are a sugar-free option. Also, artificial sweeteners may protect against cavities when substituted for sugary counterparts. However, I am going to discuss the implications of artificial sweeteners and why we may want to stay away from them.

You’ve Got To Be Yolking

Are egg yolks really that bad? Do they increase cholesterol and lead to heart disease? These are some of the questions I’d like to refute in today’s post. It all goes back to Ancel Keys and the Seven Countries Study, which found an association between countries where fat consumption was the highest and increased rates of heart disease. This sparked the fat-phobia movement-- healthful foods such as eggs and dairy products (I will cover dairy in later blog posts!) were demonized, and fat-free, but not necessarily more healthful, foods were advertised for consumption.

Are High-Protein Diets Unhealthy?

Welcome!

Hi Health and Wellness World!

My name is Stephanie and I am interested in human health, specifically nutrition, mindfulness, and exercise. You may recognize me from my other website stephaniewellbeing.com. I created this blog for a class I am taking titled Mythbuters: Nutrition Fact or Fiction. I wanted my work for this class to be focused on one site and will post the URL to my main site (stephaniewellbeing.com) when this class comes to a close!

I will talk about nutrition myths we discussed in class for my first four posts, which are of personal interest. The last 5 blog posts and the infographic following it will be on my individual topic. I am going to discuss consumption of full-fat dairy vs. low-fat dairy. My first post will be discuss how calories are not created equal. My second post will focus on why low-fat dairy may not be a good alternative, specifically speaking to the sugar content and inflammation caused by excess sugar intake. My third post is going to discuss the implications of full-fat dairy and heart disease. My fourth post will discuss the possible consequences of consuming full-fat dairy on cancer, other chronic diseases, and weight loss. My final post will discuss my conclusions and recommendations about consuming full-fat dairy after researching the topic! I will post the infographic online as well once it is completed outlining all of my posts in a more succinct manner! Enjoy my project on here for the next month! I hope you gain some new insight about including dairy products in your diet!
